Understand the zone before you enter

Active Matter is a tactical online extraction shooter from Matter Team, published by Gaijin. Its unstable zones sit inside a fractured multiverse: enter with a purpose, recover active matter and equipment, and reach extraction before the zone disappears.

The game combines environmental threats and reality-bending anomalies with a choice of player encounters. It is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Steam and console release followed the earlier Gaijin PC version; the release timeline explains the distinction.

Choose the encounter you want

Experience What to expect Start here
PvE / Isolated Raids Face the zone without rival players’ squads, alone or with your group. PvE and solo play
PvPvE / Open Raids Environmental dangers and other operatives share the raid. Compare the modes
Dedicated PvP A separate format focused on battles against players. Gameplay explained

Mode choice matters. Entering alone does not automatically mean entering a PvE raid, and support for PvE does not mean the game works offline. Check the format you select before committing your loadout.

Find the right version

Use the Steam, PS5 or Xbox page for official store links and access requirements. The price comparison separates platform editions, Steam bundles and online subscription requirements.

Playing across platforms and carrying progress between them are different questions. Read the crossplay options before purchasing another version for the same account.
